Wilmott Dixon to complete Nottingham One

14/02/13

Developer Nottingham One Development Limited is delighted to announce they have appointed construction contractor Willmott Dixon to commence on site on 11th February 2013.

Working in collaboration with the project management and engineer consultant, Arup, jointly they will progress and complete the construction of this £40m mixed use commercial scheme by December 2013.

Nottingham One is a building for business and offers stylish Grade A office space. Functional contemporary offices have been provided as a consequence of careful thought within the design to space light materials, facilities and flexibility on the edge of the Creative Quarter district of the city and the Southern Gateway business district.

Nick Heath, operations director at Willmott Dixon, said: ‘Nottingham One is a pivotal part of the city’s Eastside regeneration master plan. When finished, the mixed-use development will be a major focal point along one of the main arterial routes in and out of the city.

‘Unfortunately, the scheme has had its problems as a result of the recession and subsequent property market downturn, which meant the development has lain unfinished for a number of years.

‘However, now under new ownership the development is back on track, and we’ are looking forward to starting on site to bring this important project to fruition.’

Deputy Leader of Nottingham City Council Graham Chapman said: ‘Over the last year the Inward Investment Team have brought 10 new companies to the City creating over 1,100 jobs. This development is a prime example that the market is recovering and Nottingham is a great place to do business. It is really positive news that the scheme is progressing after so many months of stagnation and that a final completion date has now been given. Teams within the City Council have been and will continue to work closely with Nottingham One to ensure the works run smoothly. The Southern Gateway Business District is a great place for business with excellent communication links to Nottingham’s transport system and in particular the tram. We are delighted to have Grade A Office Space available to new businesses and look forward to welcoming them to the city.’

Colin Wright, Director, Nottingham One Development Limited added: ‘This is a prime location for businesses and residents looking to locate in Nottingham. We have had significant interest in the scheme and already 16,500 sq ft of office space has been let. The development also provides office facilities from 7,000 sq ft to 15,000 sq ft, 237 residential apartments and restaurant, leisure and retail opportunities and is already home the UK headquarters for Crytek the German video gaming company. We look forward to showing companies around the site anyone wishing to view should contact agents Fisher Hargreaves Proctor 0115 9507 577 or visit www.nottingham-one.com.

£43 million Southern Gateway development reboots

20/11/12

Progress on restarting the stalled £43m Canal Street development in Nottingham’s Southern Gateway has been welcomed by Nottingham City Council.

New owner Nottingham One Development Ltd, which bought the property earlier this year, now expects the scheme to be completed by the end of 2013.

The £43m mixed-use commercial scheme on Canal Street, formerly known as Southreef, had stalled in 2010 and has had several owners since original work began in 2007.

Nottingham One has announced it is “driving forward” its construction programme for the development, located on the edge of the city’s Creative Quarter and the Southern Gateway business district.

It has appointed management consultancy and engineer Arups to oversee the programme arrangements.

Work is expected to resume on site in January 2013, with completion expected by the end of 2013.

Contractors have now been short-listed, through an “exhaustive process”, and the winner will be announced next month (December).

“I am extremely proud to gain the opportunity to rescue such a fantastic project once and for all to become one of the finest residential and commercial projects in the city,” said Colin Wright, director of Nottingham One Development Ltd.

Nottingham City Council deputy leader Graham Chapman added: “We are delighted a development programme has been put in place and are keen to see this development brought to completion.

“The scheme will undoubtedly become a major focal point along one of the main arterial routes in and out of the city.

“Teams within the city council have been working closely with the developer since acquisition to ensure the works run smoothly. We are delighted to welcome Nottingham One to the city and will continue to support them throughout the construction programme and look forward to helping with the launch of the completed development.”

Nottingham in Ninety to become reality

18/07/12

This week has seen the announcement from the Government that the Midlands Mainline is to be electrified which will slash journey times between Nottingham and London to 90 minutes.

This follows an ongoing ”Nottingham in Ninety” campaign by local business leaders and politicians calling for improvements on the line between the East Midlands and the capital.

It will allow faster, lighter and greener electric trains to replace existing diesel ones.

The news is yet more good news for the Southside Business District as it further enhances the connectivity of the city to major business destinations and literally puts London on the doorstep to businesses located here.

With work underway on the Tram expansion and train station redevelopment, the “Hub”is truly becoming a reality in Southside – ensuring that staff and clients can easily access Southside from all parts of the UK and further afield.

Tram Expansion Underway

Work is underway on the NET Tram expansion at the station Hub in Southside. This exciting project will link the south and west parts of Nottingham to the Hub in the heart of the Southside Business District.

The Hub Southside

BWB move to Southside

22/02/12

THE engineering and environmental consultancy BWB has made Nottingham its flagship presence in the East Midlands with a move into a prestige office complex in the Southside professional quarter.

The firm, a key player in the construction of a series of commercial landmarks, has taken the fifth floor at Waterfront House, the Grade A office complex which forms part of Waterfront Plaza, the mixed use scheme built by Northern Ireland developer McAleer & Rushe.

They leased the 8,650 sq ft suite in a deal secured by John Proctor, of Nottingham property consultancy FHP, and James Hall, of Geo Hallam & Sons, who acted for the landlord, law firm Shoosmiths.

BWB has been in business 21 years and is now the largest privately-owned engineering and environmental consultancy in the East Midlands.

It has a 90-strong team working at Waterfront Plaza, one of a network of offices which takes in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds. In total, the £10.5m-turnover business employs 140 people.

It delivers a range of engineering services centred around the built environment, transportation and infrastructure and environmental sectors.

Managing director Steve Wooler said: “The past few years have been a period of great change for the industry, but BWB Consulting has come out of it in a strong position and ready to expand.

“We went through a management buy-out in 2008, we have completed a successful refinancing, and the move from our old home in the Lace Market into a state-of-the-art environment in Nottingham’s emerging professional district makes a bold statement about our ambitions.”

John Proctor said the building provided an ideal location, with excellent facilities and a well-connected position.

He said: “Southside is becoming established as Nottingham’s central business district. It is within walking distance of the city centre and alongside the railway station with its connections to London. The expansion of the tram means that it will be directly linked to the ng2 Business Park and beyond.

“As the economy picks up, I would expect many more businesses to want to take advantage of this kind of location.”

Tram expansion gets the go-ahead

16/12/11

It was announced yesterday that the plan to build two new lines on the NET Tram network is to get the go ahead following the final sign off from the Government.

The two new lines will connect the south and west of Nottingham to the heart of the city centre, and most importantly the Southside Business District. Work is to start in January 2012 with services planned to start by 2014.

Councillor Jane Urquhart from Nottingham City Council said “This is fantastic news for Nottingham. In these constrained financial and economic times it means a significant boost to the local economy, more jobs and better public transport for thousands of people.”

The Tram will form part of the new transport Hub at Nottingham Rail Station where trains, tram, bus and car networks will come together to create a world class multi-modal transport network in Nottingham. The ease for staff, visitors and clients to get to companies based in Southside is one of the major reasons they have located here.

With companies such as Capital One, Nottingham City Council, Browne Jacobson, Ikano Financial Services, Shoosmiths and Crytek already based here, we are hoping that the Tram and Station redevelopment will attract many more into the business district.
