The £60 million redevelopment of the Nottingham Train Station has been given the go ahead by the Transport Minister, Norman Baker. The station, at the heart of the Southside Business District, will see work commence as early as January 2011.
The project will see the realisation of the long term plan to create a state-of-the-art transport hub – where trains connect with trams, cars, buses, taxi’s and bikes.
Nottingham Express Transit project director Chris Deas said he was delighted that all the partners had agreed the funding for the hub and the regulatory approvals had been signed. “It is a big milestone,” he said. “We are confident it will act as a catalyst to bring the city out of recession with its ability to drive development at the Southside of the city.”
The redevelopment will see new retail space created, improved passenger areas, overhaul of the platforms, highway improvements and a new 950-space multi storey car park.
