It was announced yesterday that the plan to build two new lines on the NET Tram network is to get the go ahead following the final sign off from the Government.
The two new lines will connect the south and west of Nottingham to the heart of the city centre, and most importantly the Southside Business District. Work is to start in January 2012 with services planned to start by 2014.
Councillor Jane Urquhart from Nottingham City Council said “This is fantastic news for Nottingham. In these constrained financial and economic times it means a significant boost to the local economy, more jobs and better public transport for thousands of people.”
The Tram will form part of the new transport Hub at Nottingham Rail Station where trains, tram, bus and car networks will come together to create a world class multi-modal transport network in Nottingham. The ease for staff, visitors and clients to get to companies based in Southside is one of the major reasons they have located here.
With companies such as Capital One, Nottingham City Council, Browne Jacobson, Ikano Financial Services, Shoosmiths and Crytek already based here, we are hoping that the Tram and Station redevelopment will attract many more into the business district.
