Tram expansion gets the go-ahead

Friday, December 16th, 2011

It was announced yesterday that the plan to build two new lines on the NET Tram network is to get the go ahead following the final sign off from the Government.

The two new lines will connect the south and west of Nottingham to the heart of the city centre, and most importantly the Southside Business District. Work is to start in January 2012 with services planned to start by 2014.

Councillor Jane Urquhart from Nottingham City Council said “This is fantastic news for Nottingham. In these constrained financial and economic times it means a significant boost to the local economy, more jobs and better public transport for thousands of people.”

The Tram will form part of the new transport Hub at Nottingham Rail Station where trains, tram, bus and car networks will come together to create a world class multi-modal transport network in Nottingham. The ease for staff, visitors and clients to get to companies based in Southside is one of the major reasons they have located here.

With companies such as Capital One, Nottingham City Council, Browne Jacobson, Ikano Financial Services, Shoosmiths and Crytek already based here, we are hoping that the Tram and Station redevelopment will attract many more into the business district.

Browne Jacobson moves to Southside

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Law firm Browne Jacobson are to move their Nottingham office to Mowbray House, adjacent to the HM Customs and Revenue offices in the Southside Business District.

This is more great news for the growing business district and Browne Jacobson will join the likes of Capital One, Ikano, Shoosmiths, Crytek, Capital One, Nottingham City Council and East Midlands Trains.

The story from Insider Magazine:
“Browne Jacobson, which also has offices in Birmingham and London, had been looking to move out of its 44 Castle Gate offices for some time.

The firm has decided to move into the Grade A office space, which was designed by Hopkins in the 1990s. At the time it was widely seen as a pioneering green project in the UK.

Jones Lang LaSalle’s Nottingham office acted for Mapeley on the deal.

Lorraine Baggs, trade and investment manager at Invest in Nottingham told Insider: “Browne Jacobson, as one of Nottingham’s top law firms, are an integral part of the city’s business community and an active member of the Invest in Nottingham Club. We’re delighted that its roots will remain in the city during its expansion programme.

“Its move to Southside business district further strengthens the offer in the area and will encourage more occupiers to consider the new and existing schemes available.”

In 2010/11 the firm announced five new partner and 13 associate promotions. Three additional partners were recruited to the firm, including Peter Ware, Kate Andrews and Juliette Shaw, bringing the total number of lawyers at the firm to 283.

Managing partner, Iain Blatherwick, said: “We are delighted to have broken through the £35m barrier, posting our best ever turnover figures in a market which remains very competitive.

“The growth has been achieved through winning new clients and new work, by working harder and finding innovative ways of delivering our service.”

Railway Station Redevelopment Moves On

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Work starts in earnest this year on the redevelopment of Nottingham’s railway station.

Further details of the design of the proposed new multi-storey car park at Nottingham’s railway station will be considered at a meeting of Nottingham City Council’s Development Control Committee on 19 January prior to construction work starting in March.

The striking new 950 space car park, which will incorporate office and retail premises at ground level, will be built by Vinci Construction.
The new car park will be built on the western end of the existing surface station car parking area on Queen’s Road.

The remainder of the existing surface station car park will be made available for redevelopment as part of the wider Southside redevelopment.

The public right of way across the station footbridge will be temporarily closed to enable construction to take place safely.

This is the first significant phase of the railway station redevelopment. Future works to the main station buildings will provide new and enhanced passenger and operational facilities including a new ticket office, waiting rooms, shops and cafes. A new concourse will also be built to enable an improved passenger interchange connecting with lines two and three of the tram extension proposals (NET Phase Two). The railway station work is due to be completed by 2014.
